The Central Hiring Division handles all the hiring for any overtime and special assignments within the Stamford Police Department. This Division is responsible for planning all of the City of Stamford’s major events where police coverage is needed. The Central Hiring Division also handles the scheduling, assigning, and billing when officers are hired for extra duty.
The staff meets regularly with community groups that are holding large events to assist them with planning and staffing to ensure a safe event.
Anyone wishing to hire an officer can download the form from this website and bring it in to schedule the officer.
Department policy requires that the officer's extra duty hours be paid for in advance. Officers can be hired for Traffic Control, Crowd Control, Security Patrol, and other law enforcement duties.
Currently the Officers earn $60.00 per hour and a Supervisor, when assigned with three other officers, earns $69.00 per hour. The City of Stamford currently has an Administrative Fee of 14% and 16% depending on the person(s) or organization(s) tax exempt status for all Extra Duty billable hours. The officers have a minimum of 4 hours work per job.
The officers work an average total of 15,000 extra duty jobs per year and provide the citizens and businesses with about 100,000 hours of extra police coverage for the City of Stamford. That amounted to about $850,000 per year to the City of Stamford from the Administrative fee as of 2008 data.
