The HIV Care Network is made up of agencies in the greater Stamford area that receive State and/or Federal HIV designated funding to provide care and services to adults and children living with HIV/AIDS. These agencies provide a wide variety of services from receiving HIV medical care to establishing a "buddy" with whom you can confidentially share your thoughts and feelings. Regardless of your income, Stamford CARES will provide you with referrals to these agencies.

<>Family Centers has an HIV Housing Specialist who provides housing assistance. If you meet eligibility requirements, the HIV Housing Specialist can help you complete an application to the Connecticut AIDS Residence Coalition (CARC). CARC administers an emergency housing fund to prevent homelessness among people living with HIV/AIDS. HIV Testing and Counseling

The Stamford Health Department provides free HIV testing and counseling to individuals and family members at risk of being infected by HIV. Call 977-4896.

HIV Medical Care

HIV primary medical care is provided at the Stamford Hospital Outpatient Clinic, the Stamford Community Health Center and through a number of private physicians.

An HIV Clinical Specialist is available to coordinate your medical care and ensure that you receive the treatment you need. You can receive help with questions about your medications, upcoming appointments, treatment options, recommended procedures and laboratory tests.

Pediatric HIV Services

Stamford Hospital provides a Pediatric Immunology Clinic each month that provides special HIV care to children living with HIV/AIDS. A Care Coordinator is always available at that clinic.

Liberation Programs is an organization that provides substance use services for people, including those living with HIV infection.

You don't have to cope with HIV alone- join one of the HIV support groups in the greater Stamford area. Please call the numbers listed below for more information.

Adult HIV Support Groups:

Mental Health Services

Family Centers has a mental health therapist that counsels persons living with HIV/AIDS. The Child Guidance Center has a dedicated mental health clinician that works with children and their families affected by HIV For a referral, call Stamford CARES at (203) 977-5096.

Complementary Health Treatments

Bread and Roses: A Positive Alternative Center (APAC) offers wellness resource programs to improve the quality of life for men, women and children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

These programs which create and nurture an environment of wellness and support include:

  • Complementary health therapies (such as, massage, chiropractic, Reiki, meditation)
  • Wellness education and resources
  • Transition management
  • HIV education and empowerment

You can receive complementary treatments from APAC providers at a location in Stamford. These services are free to people who are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Call Stamford CARES at (203) 977-5096 for a referral.
